Celebrating Flag Day: Honoring the Symbol of Our Nation

Celebrating Flag Day: Honoring the Symbol of Our Nation

Flag Day in the United States is all about celebrating the American flag and what it stands for. Every year on June 14th, we remember the day the Stars and Stripes became our country's official flag. Here at Outlaw Gear, we're excited to celebrate Flag Day and the patriotism it brings out in all of us.

How Flag Day Started

Flag Day goes back to June 14, 1777. That's when the Second Continental Congress decided on an official flag for the new nation. The flag had thirteen stripes, red and white, and thirteen stars on a blue background, symbolizing the original thirteen colonies. The stars represented a new constellation, a sign of hope and freedom.

Fast forward to 1916, President Woodrow Wilson made June 14th officially Flag Day. Then in 1949, President Harry S. Truman signed a law making Flag Day a national observance. While it's not a federal holiday, it's still a big deal for many Americans.

What We Celebrate on Flag Day

Flag Day isn't just about flying the flag. It's a time to think about the values of liberty, justice, and unity that the flag stands for. It's a chance to show our love for the United States and honor those who have fought for our freedom.

People across country celebrate Flag Day with parades, ceremonies, and patriotic events. Schools will often teach kids about the history and importance of the American flag. It's also a day for everyone to proudly display their flags at home, work, and public places.
